A Trowbridge man who filmed himself raping a sleeping woman has been jailed.
Andrew Hews denied the offence – despite the damning evidence on his mobile phone.
The 38-year-old, of Frome Road, put his victim through a trial at Salisbury Crown Court instead of owning up to his sickening crime.
On 20 May, he was jailed for six years. He was also handed an indefinite restraining order, prohibiting contact with the woman and her children.
“Hews has shown no remorse for his actions, pleading not guilty and forcing his victim to relive her ordeal in court”, DC Danielle Swanborough of Wiltshire Police said.
Adding: “He raped the woman and filmed his actions on his phone. I am pleased that he has been given a custodial sentence and a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim and her children directly or indirectly for the next decade.
“I hope this provides them with some form of closure and the opportunity to move on with their lives.
“I’d like to praise the victim for her courage and bravery in reporting Hews’ actions to police and standing up in court to give evidence. I appreciate how difficult this must have been.
“I hope she has felt supportive through the process and I would urge anyone who has been sexually assaulted to contact police so we can ensure offenders are put before the courts.”
