Three people were arrested in Salisbury in the early hours of this morning following a report of a burglary at a garden centre.

At approximately 1am, we received a call from a CCTV operator regarding a burglary in progress at the In-Excess Garden Centre in Netherhampton Road.

Officers attended the scene, with the assistance of a dog unit, and a Mini Cooper was seen to leave the site in the direction of Wilton.

A pursuit ensued via the A36 but the vehicle was lost to sight, however, enquiries later led to officers locating the vehicle in St Gregory’s Avenue at approximately 2.40am.

The occupants made off on foot and a cordon was put in place in the area with support provided by the police helicopter.

A 23-year-old man from Amesbury was arrested on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop and dangerous driving. A 17-year-old boy from Amesbury and a 16-year-old girl from Salisbury were also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

They all remain in Melksham custody for further questioning today.

Sgt Keith Jackson said: “This was an excellent example of officers from all units including Team 1 Salisbury, the dog unit, air support, firearms and roads policing officers as well as our colleagues in the crime and communication centre, working together to locate and detain the offenders.

“As part of our enquiries, suspected stolen items including garden furniture were also located and these have been seized.

“I’d like to thank the eagle-eyed CCTV operator who initially reported concerns to us which enabled us to bring this incident to a close.”
