A Tesco store was forced to close after a man was ‘knocked unconscious’ in an attack.

The serious assault happened inside the mini supermarket in Freshbrook Village Centre, Swindon, just before 9pm yesterday evening (Friday 21 July).

Police said a man, aged in his 50s, was punched and knocked unconscious by a known male. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for suspected broken bones to his face.

At the time, Tesco manager, Shane Church, said: “We have closed the shop due to an incident between members of the public which happened at the front of the store.

“There was a no stabbing. The decision to close the store was made to allow the police to do everything they needed to do, to give us time to clear up just inside the front door and because colleagues who witnessed the incident are shaken up.

“The store will reopen tomorrow morning at 6am as usual. Thank you.”

Wiltshire Police is appealing for anyone who saw what happened to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 54230076944.
