A teenage girl has been killed in a crash in Wiltshire – and police have made an arrest.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision south-west of Bushton, near Royal Wootton Bassett, at around 9.45pm on Thursday (29 August).
The incident involved a red Renault Clio, which appears to have lost control and crashed on a bend, coming to rest in undergrowth at the roadside.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance was among the 999 crews deployed to the scene after one person – a 16-year-old girl – was found to have sustained significant injuries.
The casualty received urgent care from police, critical care medics and ambulance crews, but was declared dead a short time later.
Wiltshire Police say the girl was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle and was from Royal Wootton Bassett. Her family has been informed.
The driver of the car – an 18-year-old man – has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody for questioning.
A forensic collision investigation is ongoing at the scene, with the unnamed road expected to remain closed between Withy Bed and Hilmarton until this afternoon (Friday).
