A teen has been arrested after boy stabbed in an attack near a Swindon college.
Emergency services were called to a serious assault at the skatepark behind Oasis Leisure Centre at around 11.20am this morning (Wednesday).
A 16-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with stab wounds following the incident, which happened closed to New College’s North Star Campus.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
The suspect is in custody for questioning, with police confirming that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the stabbing.
Det Sgt Sarah Munday said: “This was a really concerning incident. A teenage boy is currently in hospital being treated for serious injuries.
“We would ask that anyone who was in the area at about 11.20am today, or who may have information relating to this should contact us as a priority.”
New College’s North Star Campus, off North Star Avenue, was plunged into lockdown as police responded, according to numerous pupils.
A spokesperson for New College said: “This afternoon, an incident occurred off-site near our North Star campus, prompting staff and students to remain on site.
“Police attended the scene and dealt with the situation.
“They have now confirmed there is no immediate threat to staff or students, and it is safe to resume normal activities.”
