A Swindon woman has been jailed after killing a motorcyclist whilst overtaking.

21-year-old Chloe Ferry was driving home after spending time with her boyfriend when she made the decision to overtake a vehicle on the A614 north of Hull, Yorkshire.

She ploughed head-on into a motorcycle during the manoeuvre – fatally wounding the rider David Lewis, 49, and seriously injuring the pillion passenger, his fiancée Susan.

The defendant, of Tyburn Close, Grange Park, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Susan spent four-and-a-half months recovering from the ordeal in hospital and now requires a mobility scooter.

At Hull Crown Court last week, Ferry – who was diagnosed with PTSD following the crash – was jailed for two years and four months. She was banned from driving for four years and two months.

“There is nobody punishing herself more than Chloe Ferry for the error of judgement on the day in question”, Charlotte Baines, defending, told the court – according to HullLive.

She added: “The defendant is traumatised by the consequences of her actions and the impact that it has had on Susan Lewis and the family of both victims.

“She has no intention of driving again. She struggles every day to be a passenger in a car.”
