A Swindon woman was caught drink driving hours after being sentenced for the same thing – having consumed a bottle of wine.

On Wednesday (27 May), 27-year-old Ellie Watson pleaded guilty to the offence – which was committed in April – and was disqualified from driving.

Despite the ban, less than 24 hours later the defendant was stopped by police dog handler PC Craig Head while behind the wheel of a car in Ocotal Way.

She was suspected of being under the influence; Watson provided a breath sample of 109 micrograms and 95 micrograms in custody. The legal limit is 35.

She was subsequently charged with drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, and remanded into custody.

At a hearing at Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday (28 May), Watson, of Church Walk North, Swindon, was sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months.

She was disqualified from driving for 42 months, and given a 12-month community order, including 15 rehabilitation activity days.

PC Head said: “Watson’s actions are absolutely appalling and show absolutely no consideration or respect for other road users.

“Drink driving can and does kill and to be caught almost immediately after being disqualified for an identical previous offence is completely unacceptable.

“She is now disqualified from driving for the next three and a half years, and if she is caught again then she is liable to be sent to prison.”
