Two teenagers on illegal e-bikes lost their ‘street credit’ following a police stop in Swindon – after their parents arrived at the scene.
Officers from the Local Policing Tasking Team were attending a community engagement session in Redhouse when they spotted a group of boys on electric bicycles.
One member of the riders was wearing a balaclava in broad daylight, sparking concerns.
The group was approached and spoken to in the bench area of Frankel Avenue.
One of the boys, riding an illegal throttle-powered e-bike, attempted to flee but was stopped by officers.
As a result, two illegal e-bikes were seized for having no insurance – and will be destroyed.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said that the duo’s parents were called to the scene.
“Their parents were also called and turned up, ruining their street credit…”
Police have reminded the public that e-bikes with throttle mechanisms that do not comply with UK regulations are classed as motor vehicles. They are illegal to ride on public roads.
