Swindon shooting: Police confirm boy, 17, sustained significant injuries

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that a teenage boy sustained gunshot wounds during an incident in Swindon in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

Armed police, alongside local officers and ambulance crews, were called to the shooting in Odstock Road, Penhill, at approximately 0.30am.

A 17-year-old boy was found to have sustained potentially life-changing injuries in an attack – which police believe were caused by a firearm.

He was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by Wiltshire Air Ambulance after being stablised at the scene until around 1.40am.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to an incident in Swindon at 00:26 on Monday, April 24, 2023.

“We attended in our helicopter and airlifted a patient to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.”

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Tucker says the force is throwing everything at the major investigation.

She said: “We are actively investigating this incident with all the resources at our disposal.

“We would be very grateful to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident and may have seen what happened.

“We are also appealing to anyone in the area to check CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage from overnight 23rd into 24th April.

“This attack has left a young man with serious injuries and he is currently undergoing hospital treatment. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“There is not thought to be any threat to the wider public at this time.”
