A Swindon preacher denies shouting racial abuse at a family in the town centre.
Shaun O’Sullivan, who is regularly seen speaking about God and the Bible into a megaphone alongside loud music, was arrested for breaching his bail conditions earlier this week.
Officers attended the 35-year-old defendant’s home in Whitbourne Avenue, Park North, and brought him into custody as they investigated the allegations.
Yesterday (16 October), he was remanded and put before Swindon Magistrates’ Court – charged with two counts of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress.
“It follows an incident on Canal Walk, Swindon around 12.20pm on September 15 where a man is reported to have shouted abuse at three people”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
O’Sullivan pleaded not guilty and the case was sent to Swindon Crown Court for trial. He will next appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 15 November.
He was released from custody with bail conditions not to enter Swindon town centre – an area defined on a map provided directly to the defendant.
