A Swindon surgery was closed this morning after a patient presented with coronavirus symptoms.
The Hawthorn Medical Centre in Gorse Hill was closed for several hours while staff worked to Public Health England guidelines including deep-cleaning, reopening at around 1pm.
Practice manger Angela Sundberg confirmed the surgery closed over a suspected case of coronavirus, but told Wiltshire 999s that she felt the risk was “low”.
Based on the World Health Organization’s declaration that this is a public health emergency of international concern, the UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the UK from low to moderate.
A notice on the medical centre’s website says: “If you have recently travelled from an at risk area or you are concerned that you may have coronavirus then please DO NOT come to the surgery. You must self-isolate at home and phone NHS111.”
A secondary school in Burford, just over the border in Oxfordshire, has been closed until Monday following a suspected case of coronavirus.
