A man who threatened to kill his wife and strangled her has been spared an immediate prison term.
At Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 12 January, Darren Jackson appeared to be sentenced after previously pleading guilty to a charge of non-fatal intentional strangulation.
The 54-year-old, of Tulip Tree Close in Pinehurst, attacked his wife on 24 July last year. During the incident, he threatened to kill her – and there were children present at the scene.
The marriage has since ended and divorce proceedings are ongoing.
Magistrates imposed a 20-week custodial sentence suspended for 18 months. Jackson must complete 15 rehabilitation activity days and a 30-day relationships course.
A restraining order was also imposed for 18 months. He must not attend Lyndhurst Crescent in Park North or contact his victim directly or indirectly other than via a solicitor.
Jackson must also pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £187 surcharge.
