A Swindon man has been arrested after his ‘close friend’ was killed in a horror crash on the M4 near Chippenham at the weekend.
Daniel Conway died after a black Mercedes left the carriageway and struck a tree on the slip-road to Leigh Delamere Services.
Emergency services attended the serious incident at around 2am on Sunday (30 November), but the 32-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 29-year-old man from Swindon, understood to be a close friend of the deceased, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for urgent care.
Wiltshire Police has today (Tuesday) confirmed that he was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen for drink and drugs, and on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released on bail with conditions, a force spokesperson said.
The M4 was closed eastbound between Junctions 18 and 17 for around 16 hours as a forensic collision investigation was carried out.
