A woman has been arrested after a man suffered horrific injuries in a dog attack in Swindon after afternoon (Sunday).

Armed police were deployed after the serious incident in Exeter Street at around 4.20pm.

A man, aged in his 50s, sustained life-changing injuries when an ‘out of control’ dog savaged him in a property.

Critical care medics from Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, alongside local ambulance crews, attended the scene and provided urgent treatment.

The man was then flown to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further care.

Police officers armed with rifles and shotguns were present as dog handlers attempted to bring the animal under control. At around 6.15pm, the dog was sedated, put into a cage and loaded into a van.

According to a local resident, a woman could be hear shouting “Don’t shoot my dog” repeatedly.

Two homes in the street have been declared crime scenes, with forensic investigation work carried out shortly after the horror attack.

Police cordons have since been lifted, with the affected roads and alleyways reopened.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We responded to reports of a dog out of control in a property in Exeter Street, Swindon around 4.20pm this afternoon (27/04).

“A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital to be treated for life changing injuries.

“Firearms officers were deployed to the area to make sure the area was safe.

“The dog was sedated and secured. The owner, a 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of being the owner/person in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

“There is not thought to be a further threat to the public.
