A suspected drink driver has been arrested following a crash in Swindon town centre.
Police were called to reports of a vehicle hitting a garden wall in Curtis Street, at the junction with Crombey Street, at 11.30pm yesterday night (Wednesday 11 January).
The occupants of the car – a black Audi – reportedly fled the scene. A search of the car uncovered a baton.
A short time later, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and being in possession of an offensive weapon.
He was taken to Great Western Hospital as a precaution and is now in custody for questioning.
The garden wall was completely demolished in the road traffic collision.
