A serious crash involving two lorries has closed the M4 in one direction this morning, police have said.

Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions 15 and 16 (Swindon) at around 3.20am following reports of a road traffic collision.

The road was closed, and is expected to remain shut until later this morning for collision investigation and recovery work.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Drivers should be aware that a closure is currently in place on the M4 westbound between junctions 15 and 16.

”Traffic is currently being diverted off the motorway at junction 15, but this is likely to result in delays during rush hour, so drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

”Due to the size of the vehicles involved and the seriousness of the collision, the closure is likely to remain in place for several hours.”
