A prolific offender who ‘brought misery to local businesses’ has been sent to prison.
Marcus Pocock pleaded guilty to a string of theft-related crimes in Devizes at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Monday (3 June).
The 49-year-old, of no fixed abode, stole large amounts of alcohol and toilet roll from Sainsbury’s between 21 March and 4 April this year.
He also entered The Lamb Inn as a trespasser with intent to steal, and took items from Holland and Barrett on 18 February.
Pocock – who has a long history of similar offending – was jailed for 26 weeks.
Local PC Sarah Hardwidge said: “Pocock is a prolific offender who has brought misery to local businesses so we welcome this custodial sentence.
“We have worked closely with Devizes Shop Watch and Pub Watch, who have been extremely proactive in reporting Pocock’s offending to us.
“We’d like to thank them, as without the support of our community and partnership working, we wouldn’t have been able to put him before the courts for a significant number of incidents.”
