A popular country park has been closed after ‘huge crowds’ gathered there over the weekend.

Ignoring social distancing advice from the government over the coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of people visited Shearwater Lake and nearby woodlands Heaven’s Gate in recent days.

Due to this, car parks have been closed using trees and local police are expected to patrol the area.

A force spokesperson commented: “Wiltshire Police have been notified that both Shearwater Lake and Heaven’s Gate have been closed.

“This is due to the huge numbers that have gathered over the weekend so the decision has been taken to close them. The car parks at both locations are blocked, so please do not attempt to try and enter.”
