Police have shut a road after a ‘roof came flying off a new shop’ in Swindon.
Emergency services were called to the incident in Great Western Way at around 2.30pm this afternoon (Monday).
Part of the Home Bargains roof appears to have flown off during high winds, landing in on the major route.
Officers have closed the road in both directions between Cockleberry Roundabout and Transfer Bridges – and traffic is building in the area.
It’s not yet clear if anyone’s been hurt, but a car within the car park outside the store was reportedly damaged by falling debris.
The £4.5 million Home Bargains store, which was built last summer and opened in August 2023, has been evacuated.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “High winds have blown some large debris onto the Great Western Way by Home Bargains.
“Road closed causing a lot of tailbacks – please avoid.”
The spokesperson commented that they were dealing with a “large portion of roof”.
