The police helicopter was tasked as suspects fled an incident in Swindon last night.
Officers raced to reports of a disturbance ongoing at an address in Welcombe Avenue at around 10pm on Tuesday evening (22 July).
On their arrival, the suspects – a group of males – left the scene, sparking an urgent search.
The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bristol was deployed. It circled the area for around 40 minutes before returning to base.
According to a local, ‘there was lots of shouting and banging at flats near Welcombe Avenue’. They claim those involved ‘sped away on a bike and mopeds’.
Another resident spoke of there being ‘a lot of police on the street’, and ‘a lot of shouting and several people on electric bikes’.
Rumours of gunshots were spreading online, however, there’s nothing to suggest firearms were involved in the incident.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that they were called to a disorder involving males who had reportedly gathered in the area.
“There were no reported injuries and no arrests made”, a force spokesperson said.
Adding: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone with information that might relate to the incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 350 of 22 July. Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
