Wiltshire Police has cordoned off an area after the bomb squad were called to a discovery.

Officers taped off a section of land near the River Avon, close to Ashey Road in Salisbury, as a precaution.

It’s after suspected historic munitions were found, according to the force.

A bomb disposal unit is in attendance as experts assess the discovery and ensure safe disposal.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “We have placed a cordon around an area near the River Avon, near Ashley Road, Salisbury as a precaution – following the discovery of suspected historic munitions.

“An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is currently at the site to make an assessment.

“We ask that members of the public avoid the area and respect the cordon that has been put in place for public safety.”
