UPDATE: A4 reopens as baby taken to hospital after crash on crossroads in Chippenham
Police have closed the A4 near Chippenham following a road traffic collision.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the Chequers Crossroads in Bath Road at around 11am this morning (Tuesday).
Three vehicles – a black Volvo XC90, a black Land Rover Discovery and a bleu Skoda Fabia – were involved in the incident.
Numerous police vehicles were in attendance alongside a fire engine and ambulance.
Despite the significant damage sustained to the cars, nobody was seriously injured. It’s understood a young child is being checked over by paramedics.
The road, between Chequers Roundabout in Chippenham and the Cross Keys crossroads in Corsham, is closed in both directions – and isn’t expected to reopen until at least 1.30pm.
One motorist described the smash as ‘nasty’, describing how debris was strewn across the road.
Just after Christmas, a car overturned when it was involved in a collision at the same junction.
