A 74-year-old says he has been forced to wash himself using his sink for four months after repeated delays in installing a new shower.

Richard Fry decided to upgrade his bath to a shower cubicle back in September last year – but claims he was ”left in the lurch” by a plumbing company.

Despite paying £6,000 to Emergency 24/7 Plumbing up front for the work to be completed, he says that the work is still incomplete after many months.

Richard, who lives in Swindon, said: “They took my bath out later on in September but when the shower arrived, which was in October, the shower feet were missing so that caused more delays.

“It’s on the floor in the lounge still after three months. I’ve been using a sink to wash daily for over three months now.

“I feel frustrated, depressed, and fed up. In 50 years, I have never known someone as incompetent.

“They’ve got all the money and provided very little so far. The quote is double what it should be and I feel like I’ve been robbed of £6,000.”

Emergency 24/7 Plumbing blamed the delays on having a small team, supply shortages and ‘the flu’ – as well as the war in Ukraine.

The national company, based out of London and Leicester, has a team of around 25 employees and relies on foreign imported items to ensure that they install the ‘highest quality’ goods.

A spokesperson said: “We try and make sure our customer service is the priority as we value customer satisfaction, we don’t like customers upset.

“We haven’t tried to avoid him, delays in supplies as well as our small team suffering from flu has caused this.

“Our suppliers have been affected by events such as the war in Ukraine and of course Christmas delays, we are working to get new suppliers as we import all our goods from abroad to ensure they are of the highest quality.”
