A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Salisbury city centre.
The man, aged in his 70s, was standing near his van when he was hit by a car in Exeter Street shortly before 6am this morning (Friday).
Emergency services were called to the crash, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
“The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
The driver of the car involved remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.
A full-scale forensic collision investigation is underway – with the road expected to remain closed until late afternoon or early evening.
Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to get in touch.
The spokesperson added: “Please be aware of road closures in place on Exeter Street between St Ann Street and the Churchill Way roundabout
“Drivers should seek alternative routes and expect significant delays in the area – closures are likely to be in place for a number of hours.
