Wiltshire’s fuel prices are swiftly soaring towards £2 a litre, sparking panic buying fears.

At Trowbridge Lodge Services, in Ashton Road, motorists are forced to pay 199.9p for a litre of diesel.

Petrol prices are also rising, with a litre of unleaded costing 179.9p.

There are concerns that the soaring cost of petrol and diesel will see motorists flock to service stations in a bid to fill up before they rise even higher in the coming days and weeks.

According to Island Echo, a garage on Isle of Wight raised the price of diesel to a staggering 201.5p per litre, making it one of the most expensive places to buy fuel in the country.

Equally concerningly, a BP service station off the A2 near Canterbury, Kent, has also raised the price of diesel to 206.9p per litre.

RAC spokesperson Simon Williams warned motorists of a continuation in rising fuel costs in the coming days.

“The cost of filling a 55-litre family car with petrol is now £87 – £7 more than it was at the start of the year.

“Diesel drivers are even worse off, with a tank now costing more than £90 for the first time ever – £8 more than in early January.”
