Wiltshire 999s has partnered with Owen’s World for a project aiming to bring public access bleed control kits to Chippenham following a fatal stabbing.

16-year-old Hardenhuish School pupil Shayne Hambakachere died after suffering knife wounds in an attack in London Road on Saturday (31 January).

We’ve teamed up with Owen’s World, a charitable organisation that set up after the murder of Owen Dunn in Swindon back in 2022, to source emergency bleed control kits.

The project is being funded by a GoFundMe, and so far £3,776 has been raised. Can you spare a few quid? Make a donation here >

Furthermore, Owen’s World will be providing training and educational talks in Chippenham schools – with work to arrange these events ongoing.

The kits, which contain products especially for treating major bleeds, can be used in a variety of situations including stabbings, accidental blade wounds, falls and road traffic collisions to name just a few.

Journalist Daniel Jae Webb, owner of Wiltshire 999s, decided to launch the project after covering Shayne’s tragic death and wants many life-saving kits installed across the town.

He said: “Stabbings are rare in Chippenham, but when they do happen people should have access to emergency bleed control kits – so I’m making sure they do in future.

“I’m so pleased the community has donated thousands of pounds to help fund these life-saving kits. Next I’ll be working to find suitable locations for them to be stored.

“By the end of March I hope to have purchased and arranged the install of dozens of bleed control kits. The ambulance service will be informed and a map will be available.”

Owen’s World founder Jo Davis said: “Everyone at Owen’s World sends their love to Shayne’s family.

“It’s absolutely imperative that we install as many trauma kits as possible, as well as providing the education to go with them.

“We’re looking forward to working with Wiltshire 999s to make this happen.

“If anyone can provide a location to install a cabinet or to host the training please get in touch.”

Further details will be released once the kits have been ordered and when the first one has been installed.
