A naked man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening people with knife in Malmesbury.
Police raced to the knife attack in the town centre at around 1pm this afternoon (Saturday).
The force received a report of a man naked from the waist down in Dark Lane carrying a knife – with officers deployed to the scene.
It’s believed he has travelled on foot on Bristol Street and Bremilham Road, and “assaulted and threatened members of the public with the knife”, Wiltshire Police said.
Officers swiftly attended the scene and arrested the man on Bristol Street. He was provided with medical treatment at the scene and is currently in police custody.
“Man naked try to stab someone he’s been detained by a police dog”, a witness said.
There have been no reported serious injuries, according to police. Wiltshire 999s understands one person is in hospital receiving treatment.
A heightened police presence will remain in the town centre while further enquiries are carried out.
Detective Superintendent Angela Shipp said: “We appreciate the significant amount of community concern that this incident will have caused, and we are treating it incredibly seriously.
“As it has taken place on a busy Saturday afternoon in the town centre, it is believed that there will be a number of witnesses and potentially more victims who we haven’t yet spoken to.
