A number of people have reportedly been injured in a serious crash in Trowbridge.

A van is believed to have ploughed into two people near The Shires Shopping Centre in Bythesea Road at around 12.30pm this afternoon.

The road is currently blocked by emergency services as they attend the scene.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing an elderly woman seriously injured and at least one other person with injuries in the road.

Councillor Antonio Piazza for Drynham tweeted: “Please can everyone avoid this part of Trowbridge today. I will provide an update if possible when I learn more.

“A van is believed to have ploughed into multiple people near The Shires Shopping Centre.”

UPDATE 1.30PM: Emergency services have now left the scene and the road has reopened. No one’s believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

UPDATE 2.20PM: A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police has released the following statement: “We were called by the ambulance service to a road traffic collision involving a van and two female pedestrians at just after 12.30pm today (20/12).

“Both women were treated by paramedics at the scene and conveyed to the Royal United Hospital.  Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

“This is not being treated as suspicious.”
