A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a car on a major Swindon route.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision in Marlborough Road at around 10.15pm last night (Wednesday, 2 August).
A Suzuki motorcycle struck a black BMW on the roundabout with Windsor Road, with the rider – a man aged in his 60s – sustaining significant injuries.
Despite the best efforts of police officers, paramedics and Wiltshire Air Ambulance critical care medics, the man was was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.
A roads policing vehicle – a marked BMW – which was close to the crash with it happened forms part of the scene. However, it’s not believed the car was directly involved in the collision, but was nearby when it occurred.
Forensic collision investigation work is underway, and is expected to continue for several hours.
Marlborough Road will remain closed to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians between Broome Manor Lane and Queens Drive for most of today (Thursday).
