A Trowbridge mosque has invited the community over after a Muslim woman was racially abused in a Tesco car park on Wednesday afternoon.
On 25 May 2017, at approximately 3.15pm, a 40-year-old woman was waiting for a parking space in the mother and baby bays when a man approached her vehicle.
The man verbally assaulted the woman in an aggressive way, police say.
Posting anonymously on Spotted in Trowbridge, the victim said: “He [the perpetrator] obviously saw a Muslim lady with a headscarf sat there and thought he could intimidate me.
“His wife or partner was so embarrassed she couldn’t look at me, everyone else in the car park were looking at us so must’ve heard what he was shouting too.
“The irony is that just before this incident I was watching and partaking in a two minute silence at 11 as I watched crying as it aired live on the BBC.”
Then, Trowbridge Mosque wrote online, inviting the community to visit the mosque.
A spokesperson for the Trowbridge Mosque said: “For anyone interested in understanding what Islam is or what we do in the mosque, we have an open day every last Saturday of the month. The next one is this coming Saturday between 2-4pm.
“Not only is everyone welcome but we would be delighted to have you there. The address is 52-54 Longfield Road – just behind Tesco.”
