Parents of children in Bradford on Avon are growing increasingly concerned about a man in a van who was may have attempt to kidnap a schoolgoer.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police have received a number of calls this morning from concerned parents in the area in response to the report of a male stopping a silver/grey van next to a student in what was perceived by the student as incredibly strange behaviour and a possible attempt to kidnap.
“This incident has clearly left the young girl very unnerved, and support and guidance has been offered to students at the local school by the staff.
“Whilst the possibility of something serious cannot be ruled out, there are also other possible options including an overzealous delivery driver, or ‘Nottingham Knockers’.
“We can confirm that we had a report of the Nottingham Knockers in the area on this same day and they will often drop a number of people off in a van early in the day and then return to collect them later.
“Police have checked their systems thoroughly and are satisfied that this incident is not connected with any previous reported concerns.
“Making children aware of their personal safety is paramount, and simple safety tips such as walking in groups and advising family or friends of what time you are expected to be leaving and arriving at places would be beneficial.
“If in doubt, or if there are any concerns then please tell a family member, school staff, or Police on 101 (999 if an emergency).”
