A man has been seriously injured after being hit by a bus in Chippenham.
The Stagecoach 55 service struck the pedestrian our the Premier shop in London Road at around 7.30am this morning (Wednesday).
The man, who is believed to be a pensioner, sustained serious wounds – and suffered notable blood loss at the scene.
He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for further care. He’s not thought to have be in a life-threatening condition, and is expected to recover.
Members of the public and police officers provided initial first aid ahead of the ambulance crew.
There is suggestion the man fell into the path of the bus, with the driver unable to avoid the collision. But this has not been confirmed and enquiries are ongoing.
London Road is closed in both directions between Avenue La Fleche and Pewsham Way. However, it’s likely to reopen shortly.
There are traffic delays in Wood Lane as motorists attempt to use the route as a cut-through.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We attended an incident in London Road, Chippenham at about 7.30am this morning (January 15) in which a male pedestrian had been struck by a bus.
“He has been taken to hospital to be treated for a serious injury which is not thought to be life threatening.
“There were no arrests.
“The road has since reopened.”
