A jealous Salisbury man has narrowly escaped being sent to prison after subjecting his ex-girlfriend to a campaign of vile abuse.
30-year-old Joshua Moores sent the appalling voicemails to the mother of his three-year-old child just 19 days after a non-molestation order was imposed by Swindon Family Court on 5 February this year.
He pleaded guilty to all three counts of breaching a non-molestation order, sought by his former partner of six years, at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Crown prosecutor Ryan Seneviratne said the defendant, of Middleton, Winterslow, breached the order by leaving abusive voicemails and dozens of missed calls between 24 February and 18 March, by going to her home and shouting abuse at her on 25 February and by leaving more distressing voicemails on 20 March.
Having ignored the initial bout of phone calls and abusive voicemails, he turned up at her home address.
His victim arrived at home with her sister, who parked 15 metres from her address, at around 8.30pm on 25 February. When she arrived, she noticed a dark orange Kia parked up. Recognising it was Moores, he remained in the car with their three-year-old.
In front of their child, he issued vile verbal abuse at her, and shouted: “You got a new man?” She managed to get inside her home and he eventually left the area.
In voicemails sent after the in-person incident, he threatened: “You f**king c**t, I’m coming round now”, before asking: “How much c**k did you take today then?”
Continuing, he then pleaded: “Tell me that you love me because I’m going to kill myself”, before crudely asking if he could “punish your m**ge one more time”.
With his head in his hands, crying in the dock, Moores represented himself.
He told the could the incidents were a result of him “just being upset” and recognised her made bad decisions due to his ongoing alcohol use.
The experienced multi-skilled construction worker, earning £38,000 a year, said he felt “horrific” about his actions towards the mother of his child.
Taking into account Moores breached the non-molestation order “depressingly soon” after it was imposed and a child was witness to events, magistrates imposed a six-month prison sentence – suspending it for 24 months.
He was also ordered to complete the Building Better Relationships Programme and an alcohol treatment programme.
£85 costs and a £128 victim surcharge was also imposed.
