A man was killed in a collision which closed the M4 westbound for most of Monday.

At around 3.20am, police, fire and ambulance were called to a collision involving two lorries on the westbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16.

It is believed one of the lorries was stationary on the hard shoulder while a tyre was being changed, when a passing lorry struck the parked vehicle. The collision caused fatal injuries to a man in his 50s, who is believed to have been the passenger of the stationary vehicle.

The man from Swansea sadly died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and will be provided support by a specialist family liaison officer.

The drivers of both vehicles were not injured.

The M4 was closed between junctions 15 and 16 westbound following the collision. Lane 3 opened at 11.30am before a full closure was put in place again at 5pm to allow for recovery of the vehicles. Lane 3 reopened at 10.15pm. Recovery was completed at approximately 3am this morning.

A police spokesperson said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage. Please call 101 and quote log number 18 of March 16.”
