A Swindon man caught driving whilst disqualified for the 14th time faces going to prison having broken a suspended sentence order.
Thomas Kennedy, 46, appeared before district judge Joanna Dickens this morning where he admitted driving whilst banned and driving without insurance.
Crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger said officers on patrol spotted the defendant in a Kia Picanto travelling along Commercial Road at 11.20am on 9 September last year.
They followed the car for a short distance before signalling for the driver to pull over.
Once stopped, Kennedy identified himself to officers and told them he was a disqualified driver. He was subsequently reported for the offence.
The court heard he was disqualified from driving for 18 months in June 2019 having been convicted of driving whilst disqualified. A suspended sentence was also imposed. His admissions today put him in breach of the order.
Richard Williams, defending, told of how his client is currently in a wheelchair after suffering serious injuries in a road traffic collision six weeks ago. He was eager to point out that Kennedy was not the driver, but a passenger.
The defendant, of Lynmouth Road, Swindon, was bailed for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. He will next appear before the court on 16 June.
