A man suffered a cardiac arrest in an altercation after a crash in Corsham.
Emergency services were called to a serious incident unfolding on the A4, at the Cross Keys Crossroads, at around 4.40pm on Tuesday (21 July).
Following a minor road traffic collision involving two cars, a disorder broke out between the two drivers and a witness.
Wiltshire Police say that during the altercation one of the drivers – a man – went into cardiac arrest. Members of the public then began CPR.
Great Western Air Ambulance was tasked, landing on a nearby field. Ambulance crews and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were also sent.
Local police officer, supported by an MOD Police unit, closed the road and directed motorists past the scene to allow medics to work.
The casualty was revived and taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for further care. The force confirmed that despite his cardiac arrest, “he hadn’t suffered any life-threatening injuries”.
He was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide, driving while unfit through drink and/or drugs and then further arrested on suspicion of non-fatal strangulation.
Due to requiring hospital care, he was de-arrested – but the investigation will continue.
