A man has been arrested after a woman was attacked this afternoon (Wednesday).
Police were called to the incident in Semington, near Melksham, at around 1.30pm.
The suspect, a man aged in his 30s, fled the scene of the assault and police launched an urgent manhunt in the nearby countryside.
Due to the nature of the terrain, a National Police Air Service plane was tasked to assist the search – flying to Wiltshire from its Bournemouth Airport base.
Dog units and armed officers were also deployed – later locating an arresting the suspect.
The man has been taken to Melksham custody, where he’s being held on suspicion of assaulting the woman, affray and assaulting an emergency worker.
The nature of the injuries sustained by the victim, or their condition, is unknown.
Wiltshire Police has thanked members of the public who helped officers track down the wanted male – but pointing out his direction of travel.
