A man has been arrested after a woman was killed in a crash on the Frome bypass.

Emergency services were called a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A361 at around 11pm last night (Monday, 8 April).

The incident involved a silver Mercedes C220 AMG and a silver Volkswagen Golf.

The driver and sole occupant of the Volkswagen, a woman aged in her 20s, sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

While formal identification has yet to take place, her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a specialist family liaison officer.

The driver of the Mercedes, a man aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving and drug driving.

Following a medical assessment at the scene, he was taken into police custody, where he remains.

The road reopened this morning, Tuesday 09 April, following an examination of the scene by collision investigators and recovery of the vehicles.

Anyone with dashcam, CCTV or other footage, or any information about the circumstances leading to the collision, please call 101 and give the reference 5224089811.
