A young boy has been attacked by a ‘chubby Irish teen’ at a traveller incursion in Swindon.

The nine-year-old sustained injuries to his ribs and lips after being punched and kicked at the park off Eastern Avenue, Old Walcot, on Thursday evening (12 June).

Wiltshire Police said the incident happened at around 8pm – which is around the time that a large group of travellers set up an unauthorised encampment there.

It’s claimed the suspect racially abused his victim during the assault.

He has been described as a chubby white male, about 15-years-old who spoke with an Irish accent.

He had dark brown hair and brown eyes, was about 5ft 2in tall and was wearing an orange t-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the force on 101, quoting log 346 of 12 June. Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Wiltshire Police said that officers are working with the council to “liaise with the travellers” and “manage their presence at the site”.
