A man has been arrested on suspicion of two serious offences after he allegedly followed a teenage boy into his home near Devizes.
It’s understood that the police attended the scene in Market Lavington on the evening of Wednesday 13 August, but the 70-year-old suspect wasn’t arrested at the time.
The child’s mother claims that the man – who is not known to the family – “thought it was OK to open my front door and come in”, having “followed” her son to the address.
Adding: “When I confronted him outside my house whilst my son phoned the police he said he thought my son was the boy he had arranged to meet for a date.”
She said that the police arrived, but officers decided they “could not arrest him as he didn’t brake in”.
However, it appears the force has re-evaluated the case and arrested the suspect. He remains in custody for questioning this afternoon (Friday).
Wiltshire Police confirmed that he’s being held ons suspicion of causing or inciting a vulnerable person to engage in sexual activity and trespass with intent to commit an indictable offence.
In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson said: “Officers have arrested a 70-year-old man following a report on Wednesday (13/08) that a teenage boy had been followed into his home by a person not known to him.
“The man is currently in police custody and our enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.
“We take such reports extremely seriously.”
