A male on an electric bike has been arrested after armed police swarmed a Swindon estate.

Officers, supported by the police helicopter, were involved in searching for suspects involved in an incident in the Pinehurst area at around 5pm this afternoon (Friday).

At this stage, it’s unclear what prompted the major response – which included local officers, armed police and traffic units.

A male on an electric bike collided with a black van on Poplar Avenue before attempting to flee. He was detained and taken into custody.

Wiltshire Police say he’s been held on suspicion of “numerous offences”, but have not yet confirmed what offences they are.

Armed officers were spotted attending an address off Penhill Drive shortly before the incident in Pinehurst. It’s not clear if the two are related.

The force has been approached for comment.
