A pedestrian has been hit and killed in a horror crash on the motorway in Swindon.

Emergency services raced to the M4 close to Junction 16 following a road traffic collision at around 6.30pm yesterday evening (Saturday, 9 December).

A man, aged in his 50s, was struck by multiple vehicles in lanes two and three eastbound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

They added: “Our enquiries are ongoing to ascertain the facts surrounding this incident.”

The route was closed in both directions for more than 15 hours whilst a complex forensic collision investigation – spanning both carriageways – was carried out.

The M4 reopened in both directions shortly before midday today (Sunday).

Any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 237 of 9 December.

Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].
