The motorway remains closed eastbound following a fatal road traffic collision.
Two women were killed when a lorry overturned onto a car on the M4 near Chippenham yesterday morning (Friday, 20 October).
The horror crash – which involved a total of five vehicles – sparked a huge emergency response, including eight fire crews and many ambulances.
Nearly 24 hours on, the road remains closed between junctions 18 and 17 – with National Highways stating they have “no estimate on reopening”.
The forensic collision collision investigation and vehicle recovery work is complete but emergency resurfacing is ongoing at the scene.
However, motorists travelling towards Bristol and Bath are able to use the route, as the westbound carriageway is fully open.
