An Indian restaurant is faced with a fine of up to £20,000 following a raid yesterday evening.
Immigration Enforcement officers stormed SIANA on Victoria Road in Old Town at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, discovering an illegal immigrant working inside.
A 26-year-old man from Bangladesh who had overstayed his student visa was arrested.
The Home Office say he has an outstanding immigration application and has been ordered to report regularly to Immigration Enforcement while his case is progressed.
SIANA’s management have been served with a Civil Penalty Referral Notice in relation to the illegal worker, meaning that they face a financial penalty of up to £20,000 if the employers cannot demonstrate that right-to-work document checks were carried out.
