Heartbreaking words from owner of cat killed in Trowbridge hit-and-run

The owner of an 11-month-old cat who died after being hit by a car in Trowbridge earlier today has spoken out about her heartbreak.

“To the person who chose to ignore the speed limit on College Road and raced over the speeding humps today; You obviously knew you had hit something. That something was my cat. He died. But here’s what you didn’t know:

“That cat you mowed down changed my life. He wasn’t just a pet. He was 11 months old. But here’s the important thing: That very same cat was a massive source of comfort as I worked through a great deal of personal trauma having left a seriously abusive marriage. The cat you killed was a member of my family and he was very much loved. He was precious and right now, his mum (that’s me) is absolutely heartbroken to know he is no longer there.

“Do you know why you didn’t know any of this? Because you just drove off. You didn’t even check to see if he was still alive.

“To the lovely ladies who took him to the side of the road, phoned me to let me know what had happened, wrapped him in a clean towel and placed him in a box with his collar on top for me. Thank you. From the depth of my heart for your kindness and caring. To Pets 4 Vets – as always, you we’re amazing. Thank you for letting me say goodbye and for helping me take the necessary steps to have him back in time. It meant so much to me that you remembered him (let’s face it, his personality certainly made him memorable) and you we’re all so wonderful to me. There’s good people out there. I’m heartbroken to lose my boy but on the other hand, I’m so pleased it wasn’t another person’s child.”
