A German Shepherd has been put to sleep after attacking his owner’s neck in Swindon.

Emergency services rushed to a house in Haydon View Road, off Whitworth Road, following reports of the serious incident unfolding at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (6 June).

Two-year-old Bailey took hold of his male owner’s neck and arms during a vicious mauling, which left the victim hospitalised with serious injuries.

Ambulance crews and around seven police units attended the scene to provide urgent medical care and ensure the pet was no longer a threat to others.

Bailey was put to sleep by a vet shortly after the incident

“Bailey just changed in a heartbeat, there were no changes in body language, he just attacked”, the German Shepherd’s female owner told Wiltshire 999s.

“It was my choice that Bailey was put to sleep, the police gave a few options but that was the right decision as we would hate him to attack again.”

She said that the dog – who has been living with the family since it was a young puppy – has been working with a behaviourist after occasionally being aggressive towards her husband.

Adding: “The training was going well, Bailey was as good as gold for three months and on Tuesday 6th June he attacked my husband, wounding his throat and arms.”

He was taken to Vets for Pets, where he was euthanased by a vet shortly after the incident.
