An e-scooter rider has been rushed to hospital after a crash in Chippenham.

Emergency services were called to the road traffic collision in Malmesbury Road, near the junction with Portal Close, at around 5pm this evening (Tuesday).

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was also tasked to the scene but was stood down as it flew into the area.

A young male, believed to be in his late teens, was riding an electric scooter along the pavement when he – for reasons unknown – came to be in the road.

The illegal motoring device was subsequently struck by a car – injuring the rider, who police have confirmed lives in the local area.

It’s understood the male sustained a blow to the head during the collision which resulted in a concussion. His injuries aren’t believed to be serious.

The driver of the car involved was left shaken by the incident and their vehicle suffered damage to its front end in the impact.

At least three specialist roads policing officers were in attendance

The road was closed in both directions whilst paramedics treated the male and three roads policing units attended to assess the scene.

Malmesbury Road reopened at around 6.30pm.
