An elderly tricycle rider has been injured in a crash with BMW on a Melksham junction.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A365 Bath Road shortly before 10am this morning (Thursday).
The incident, which happened on the junction with Scholars Way, involved a black BMW 1 Series and a Jorvik Elite electric tricycle.
The male rider of the tricycle sustained a head injury, and was given first aid by a passing detective from Central CID ahead of an ambulance crew arriving.
The road was partially closed by police as paramedics treated and assessed the man – who was described as elderly and having a walking stick by witnesses.
The man’s injuries weren’t deemed to be life-changing or life-threatening, and he was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for further care.
Officers allowed motorists to pass the incident in a stop-go procedure, but access to Scholars Way from Bath Road remained blocked throughout.
The driver of the BMW, a man thought to be in his 20s or 30s, was sat in the back of a police car while enquiries were carried out – but he was allowed on his way by 11.20am.
After the scene was photographed by a traffic officer, the road was reopened. The area was clear by 11.45am.
