Drivers who use the A419 are being asked to check their vehicles following a tragic incident.

An investigation is underway after a man, aged in his 20s, died on the major route in Swindon at around 2.30am on Wednesday morning (16 November).

The man, who lived locally, was involved in a collision on the carriageway – but Wiltshire Police‘s forensic collision investigation unit is working to establish the exact circumstances around the incident.

The man’s family previously said that they believe he took his own life – though this isn’t something that will be confirmed until the inquest concludes. It’s not yet clear how he came to be in the road.

The force is asking drivers who used the A419 between White Hart Roundabout and Commonhead Roundabout before 2.30am on Wednesday to check their vehicles.

“We are asking that anyone who may have driven along the A419 in the early hours to check their vehicle and contact us if you see any damage or have any other concerns”, a spokesperson said.

Adding: “We would also like to hear from anyone who may have recorded dashcam footage at the time and location of the incident.

“If you can help, please call the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 and quote log number 19 of November 16. Alternatively, email [email protected].”
