Driver rushed to hospital after ‘van flips over’ on A303 in Wiltshire

A driver has been rushed to hospital following a road traffic collision on the A303 in Wiltshire.

Emergency services, including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, attended the incident on the major route close to Mere at around 9am this morning (Friday).

A Luton-style van reportedly flipped over in a dramatic crash, leaving the driver wounded. They’ve been taken to Salisbury District Hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to a collision on the A303 at Mere at 9am this morning following a report that a Mercedes Sprinter van had flipped.

“A road closure was put in place between Mere and Willoughby Hedge so the air ambulance could land. The driver was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.”

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were called to the A303 Chaddenwick Hill, West Knoyle at 9.21am this morning following a two vehicle road traffic collision.

“Two crews attended, from Shaftesbury and Wincanton, thankfully no-one was trapped so firefighters made the scene safe and our stop was at 10.35am. We have now left the scene.”

The road remains closed in both directions between the A350 and the B3095 near Mere.
